The V.I. Vernadsky Foundation has published another collection of articles from the 11th All‑Russian Environmental Education Conference, which brings together the materials of participants in one of the key professional events in the field of environmental education in 2025. The publication includes 348 pages and was prepared based on the results of the conference “Environmental Education for Environmental Well‑being: New Tasks, Formats and Challenges,” which was held in Moscow on October 28–29, 2025.
In her opening remarks, Olga Plyamina, General Director of the V.I. Vernadsky Foundation, emphasized that over the years, the All‑Russian Environmental Education Conference had become not just a professional meeting, but also a stable platform for developing real solutions, and its proceedings had become methodological materials that teachers, researchers, and students turn to. According to her, environmental education should become a driving force for social change, and the conference itself should be a space where science, practice, traditions, and new formats come together.
The conference was organized by the V.I. Vernadsky Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation, with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Library of Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, the International Andrei Karlov Memorial Fund, the Museum of Earth Sciences at Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Geographical Society, and the Institute of Ecology at RUDN University. The goal of the conference was to exchange experience on current issues in environmental education and enlightenment, to demonstrate global trends, scientific achievements, relevant concepts, and effective practices in eco‑education at all its levels.
The collection includes articles by university professors, specialists in secondary vocational education, teachers of preschool, primary, and secondary general education, as well as representatives of public, volunteer, and environmental organizations. The materials are distributed across three major sections: environmental education in higher education, environmental education, enlightenment, and culture in school education, and environmental enlightenment and patriotic upbringing.
The authors of the publications address a wide range of issues — from training personnel for “green” industries and developing the professional competencies of future ecologists to multimedia practices, game‑based methods, digital content, and the role of libraries, museums, and specially protected natural areas in environmental education. The focus is on practice‑oriented work formats that promote the development of ecological thinking, social engagement, and a culture of responsible attitude towards nature.
The publication pays special attention to five key trends formulated by the Foundation based on the conference results: environmental design and mentoring, eco‑media, the game format in environmental practices, patriotism in environmental education, and collaboration and partnership. These areas reflect modern approaches to environmental education and show how the very logic of environmental education is changing today — from the transfer of knowledge to the formation of sustainable competencies and practical skills.
The collection is intended for teachers, researchers, specialists in the field of environmental education, students of pedagogical universities, as well as for anyone interested in issues related to environmental education and the upbringing of the younger generation.
