Roundtable Brings Together Diplomats and Public Figures on International Day of Peace
Representatives of the V.I. Vernadsky Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation took part in the international roundtable "Public Diplomacy: Partnership for Peace and Harmony," held on September 23, coinciding with the International Day of Peace. The event took place at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and became an important event in the country's international affairs.
The V.I. Vernadsky Foundation was invited to participate by the Assembly of the Peoples of Eurasia and Africa, with which the Foundation has been developing cooperation under a collaboration agreement. Representatives of the Assembly are frequent participants in the Foundation's events.
The roundtable was organized by the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Assembly of the Peoples of Eurasia and Africa," the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on Interethnic and Interreligious Relations and Migration, and the Coordinating Council for International Cooperation at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
The event was chaired by the Secretary-General of the Assembly of the Peoples of Eurasia and Africa, Andrei Belyaminov, and was featured a high-level representation. Among the participants were ambassadors and senior representatives from friendly countries of Greater Eurasia and Africa, members of the Russian diplomatic corps, officials from government, scientific, educational, and non-profit organizations, staff from the UN Information Centre in Moscow, and prominent public and academic figures.
A key moment of the roundtable was a video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the participants.
The main theme of the roundtable was the strengthening of public diplomacy through enhancing and expanding connections between various public sector organizations, including scientific and educational institutions, social movements, non-governmental organizations, and prominent leaders in public opinion, culture, science, and the arts. The goal was to promote peace globally by building an equal and meaningful dialogue, helping professional diplomats find common ground, and forming unified positions to strengthen peace, harmony, and partnership.
The International Day of Peace, on which this event was held, was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981. Since 2001, the day has been observed as a call for the renunciation of violence and a cessation of hostilities, urging all nations and peoples to coexist peacefully.
The V.I. Vernadsky Foundation’s participation highlights its active role in developing international cooperation and advancing the ideas of peace and sustainable development.
