Published 28.05.2025

The V.I. Vernadsky Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation participated in a jubilee event of the Climate Partnership of Russia devoted to its 10th anniversary of unification.

In 2018, the Vernadsky Foundation joined this Partnership, consisting of 36 companies and organizations whose efforts are aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment and preventing climate change, preserving favorable climatic conditions for the benefit of future generations. The Foundation, together with the Partnership members, drives the climate agenda of our country, propelling the goals and objectives of the Climate Partnership of Russia on those international platforms where the Vernadsky Foundation is present. For example, at Conferences of the Parties to the UNFCCC, where the Vernadsky Foundation, together with Roshydromet (the Russian Hydrometeorological Service), organizes and conducts side-events in our country. The Russian exhibition booths created by the Foundation as part of the exhibitions at these UN climate Summits always contain information – videos and brochures – about the activities of the Climate Partnership of Russia.

As part of the event dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Partnership, a presentation of the results of a comprehensive study “Climate and ESG Agenda in the Strategies of Russian Companies: Trends, Focuses and Prospects” was held. According to the data presented, the main drivers of the climate and ESG agenda in Russia since 2022 have been the government, regulators and large companies with advanced expertise. Carbon units market infrastructure is has being actively created in the country, ESG financing mechanisms are being developed, and mandatory non-financial reporting has been introduced for public companies on the 1st and 2nd quotation lists of the Moscow Stock Exchange since 2024.

To date, 65 climate projects have been registered on the Russian market, of which 88% relate to technological solutions and 12% to natural initiatives. The largest number of projects have been implemented in the oil and gas (24), chemical (15), metallurgical and mining (8), as well as energy (8) industries.

Experts unanimously noted that over a decade of work, the Partnership has become a unique platform for consolidating the efforts of business, government and the scientific community. In turn, the Vernadsky Foundation continues its actively participation in this work, implementing projects and programs designed for nurturing and developing ecological culture, promoting responsible environmental behavior, as well as maintaining a dialogue between all the stakeholders.
