The V.I. Vernadsky Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation

National Environmental Prize named after V.I. Vernadsky

The award was established by the Foundation in 2003, and since 2013 it has been named after V.I. Vernadsky in honor of the 150th anniversary of the scientist.
The purpose of the Competition is to popularize implemented projects in the field of environmental protection and environmental safety, energy and resource conservation, the development of new technologies in industry and energy, the introduction of the best available technologies, the formation of environmental culture and the development of environmental education for sustainable development based on the ideas of Academician V.I. Vernadsky and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Stages of the project:

  • Acceptance of applications
  • Moderation of applications, transfer of approved projects to the jury for examination
  • Summing up the results, awarding the winners (traditionally held in December)
  • Conducting an information campaign about the winners of the Project

Terms of participation

Implemented projects of ecological and ecological-educational orientation from individuals, associations, organizations and enterprises of various forms of ownership operating in the territory of the Russian Federation are allowed to participate in the competition.

Nominations

"Science for Sustainable development"

Authors of projects (universities, individual researchers, teams of scientists, NGOs) aimed at obtaining and implementing advanced "green" technologies are invited to participate in this nomination

"Sustainable energy"

Authors of projects (private and public companies, NGOs, government agencies, etc.) aimed at obtaining energy in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and cyclical economy, as well as at "greening" existing methods of extraction, storage, transmission and use of energy are invited to participate in this nomination.

"Sustainable production and consumption"

Authors of projects (representatives of large businesses) aimed at bringing the company's operational activities in line with the principles of sustainable development and cyclical economy are invited to participate in this nomination

"Sustainable cities"

Authors of projects aimed at improving the urban environment and infrastructure (arrangement and improvement of park areas, reclamation of abandoned territories, introduction of eco-friendly modes of transport into the city, arrangement of bike parks, bike paths, etc.) are invited to participate in this nomination.

"Conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity"

Authors of projects aimed at preserving individual species and entire ecosystems (animal rescue centers, animal shelters, nature reserves, reserves, etc.) are invited to participate in this nomination. It is necessary to provide quantitative results of the project (the number of rescued representatives of the species, protected hectares of area, reclaimed hectares of natural territories, etc.).

"Education as a path to sustainable development"

Authors of projects (individuals, institutions of higher education and culture, public and private companies, public authorities, NGOs, etc.) whose educational activities are aimed at an audience of more than 1,000 people are invited to participate in this nomination. It is necessary to provide proof of coverage of at least 1000 people.

"Startup: universities as centers of innovation creation for industry"

The authors of projects (students, researchers, young specialists – the scientific personnel reserve of the country) who develop and implement environmental and energy-efficient technologies in production are invited to participate in this nomination.

"Media contribution to sustainable development"

The media (including online media and blogs) that have implemented their own project in the field of sustainable development (launched an eco-action, conducted an educational campaign, etc.) or whose activities are directly related to topics that are affected by the SDGs with the involvement of at least 1,000 people are invited to participate in this nomination.
